How to Plan your Santorini Honeymoon itinerary?
How many days will you spend in Santorini?
How many days should you spend in Santorini is a question many people ask. The truth is there isn’t one answer. It depends on many factors.
If you’re not going to visit other islands then it’s easy to spend a week here and even up to 2 weeks. The minimum recommended is 3 nights possibly 2 in the winter months. Also bear in mind the flight or ferry arrival and departure times. This can reduce or increase the amount of time you have, especially if you plan a short visit.
For a honeymoon in Santorini, you should allow at least 3-5 nights minimum to ensure you’ve enough time to see the island and relax as well. If you’re going to visit other islands on your honeymoon, check out our top 5 recommendations for Santorini Island Hopping.
Where should you stay for your Honeymoon in Santorini?
One option is to stay on the caldera either Fira, Firostefani Imerovigli, Akrotiri or Oia. If you want the iconic Santorini view at your accommodation then choose one of the above but check carefully that your room will have the view and be prepared for limited privacy as many balconies are overlooked. This will be the most pricey option too.
Another option is to stay in one of the authentic villages like Pyrgos and Megalochori which are a few minutes inland. Expect a lot more privacy in these places and your euro goes further too. The biggest plus is the lack of crowds and close proximity to the caldera.
Option 3 is to stay in one of the beach resorts. Man-made and with lots of tourist facilities places like Kamari Perissa and Perivolos are recommended if you like the feeling of sand between your toes. In terms of cost there’s a wide range of accommodation options from simple, basic rooms to 5-star hotels.
Best time to visit Santorini for a honeymoon
Santorini is becoming a year round destination. The main tourist period however is April to October. Choose off season for cooler temperatures, lower prices and less crowds. Even in high season (July and August) Pyrgos never seems crowded and is a fantastic time to visit Santorini.
How far in advance should you book your honeymoon?
Chances are you ‘ll want to book your honeymoon well ahead. Again there’s no hard and fast rule here. Some places book up early than others so best to secure your accommodation and your flights as early as possible. Generally rates are lower if you book 6 months in advance. Many accommodations offer early booking discount and some longer stay discounts. For more tips on planning your honeymoon, check out the blog at Brides.com
